Getting ready for the next adventure!

So I guess it's time to get serious about this.

The first matter of business is related to music and sound. As I've hinted at before, I'm going to take a stab at a Flash production this time. This means I'll be incorporating music and sound effects on some of the pages.

Here's the catch: I am not actually a musician and have no particular talent for the craft! My plan is to have the music be reader-created, through a collaborative process. If you are proficient in the field of music or sound, and would like to participate in this process, please email me!*** I will send you the information you need to do this!

*** The response to this was great! Thanks to everyone who contacted me. I'm sure that's enough participants for now, but if this changes, I'll let you all know.

(A note on sound for the next adventure: music/sound will never at any point be critical to following the story! So it's still fine if you check it out at work without the volume or such.)

That's the main thing I wanted to mention. If all goes according to plan, there will be a new story on the front page tomorrow.

A side note:

Many have wondered if PS will be printed in a book at some point.

I can't say when for sure, but there WILL be a Problem Sleuth book. Probably released in multiple volumes on account of acute hugeness.

Yes! Yes! And again, Yes! I really hope this book comes out. I don't know how you'll do it, but if you do do it, and do it good. I will be very happy.

I love mspa and I think flash is a good call...but please make the audio optional. I hate having my headphones on then getting blasted by surprise music. a volume option would be top notch.

(my word verification for posting this was "ingboat". why does my brain immediately fill in the first part to be "fuckingboat"?)

I never buy things online, but I would go out and buy a Private Sleuth book.

It would be so good. In the next few while, would you be putting out genres and themes for music you need? Or, perhaps, music will be like some sort of ultra-suggestion, where you shape the next scene to whatever fan music you want to?

Make sure some of the books end the page before the recap...so you don't confuse the readers...

I don't think a book will work. Animation and still pages do not mix. If you could figure out how to put it on a DVD (as something like a series of short movies, skipping to the next by pressing right on the remote), or an e-book, that would work much better.

An e-book sounds sexy.

Holy shit, this is really serious business!

Is the Second Whistles book still forthcoming?

I would most definitely buy that book. You know what I would like though? A book of Mspaintadventures art. Like, maybe, select scenes drawn over, or you know, just character portraits, really could be anything, different styles, just stuff of the quality like the two wallpapers. I'd buy that too.

I would most definitely consider buying a Problem Sleuth book. As for the Flash production approach, I agree completely. It would make the adventure feel even more alive.

hm, sent an email about music. Could be fun...maybe there could be multiple artists for different types of scenes, eh?

As for the book...definitely a must-buy.

I have an IMPORTANT SUGGESTION for such a book.

A nice idea would be to, at each command junction, include a number of the commands you received, and then proceed with the one actually chosen.

For one thing, this helps emphasize the collaborative and interactive nature of the story.

For another, many of the developments of the story actually developed in response to early suggestions that were not immediately followed.

For another, as you've noted, the unused suggestions were sometimes more amusing than the ones actually employed.

Just a THOUGHT. It may make reading a book a more similar experience to that of us who "played the game."

A few months ago I had a dream about Problem Sleuth, and the final battle was some huge epic flash movie. When I read that you were going into some flash I nearly shat myself. I cannot wait, and I hope to see something of that magnitude in the upcoming adventure, and if not, thats okay too. Either way you win, sir, you win.

FUCK YEAH PROBLEM SLEUTH BOOK!

Seconding Vincent's suggestion. It is a Good Suggestion.

For what it's worth.. I mean, I'm not sure the exact angle of music and sound backdrop you want to create.. but you couldn't go too far wrong with DJ Jazzy Jeff at the helm of this!!

Then again a collection of artists would also make for a nice variety of moods and style for the invariably surreal and distinctive storylines and subplots to come.

Vincent's idea for the commands also sounds very good.

One of the great things about PS is that the gifs are very fast to load on slower connections. How large are we talking, for flash? Flash makes me sad. :(

I would just like to see all of Problem Sleuth popped into one sexy, sexy flash file.

Mike said...

Animated GIFs in print form?
FUCK YES.

Also, you can bet your balls I'll be submitting music.

YEAH THE BOOK IS A GREAT IDEA.
its going to be very big though, wouldn't it? over a thousand pages? or am i missing something...

My god, assuming that's actually him, I totally second any nomination for DJ Jazzy Jeff.

If not, whoever the impersonator is, you've made me very sad.

For the book, you could just break down the animations into individual frames, and do them as a series of still images. Someone I know was PDFifying them until about chapter 6, because then there were too many animations, and he didn't see the need to continue making the PDFs.

I'll only get the book if it's available for free for download via a PDF or text files or web pages or something..

I...got no money..

I'm only using the internet because I'm using someone else's wifi signal after all... :(

awesome

I also think you should have the Problem Sleuth as a e-book or even on a disc like a video game. Actually, you could potentially sell it like a PC game or something on Xbox Live. I feel like it would work better for the story itself, as well as the animations.

Dear Mr. Hussie, I have been trying to contact you for some time now, now as you may have noticed in the MSPA forums there are an influx of voice actors. This got me thinking, what if those voice actors and some fan animators got together and turned Homestuck into a series of one to two hour animations for each chapter?
I have also been tooling around with the idea of doing the same with Problem Sleuth. So, since for some reason my computer is the spawn of Satan it will not allow me to email you thus I have posted this proposal here Hoping to receive your blessing for this doozy of an undertaking. please e-mail me with your thoughts, my email: johnnyhowe2010@gmail.com
have a wonderful day

Man.... you stopped blogging since 2010?

But your MSPA is still an on-going thing, isn't it?

I'll keep on watching your blog anyway, and hope you'll post something about MSPA in this too.
